Waxing FAQ's
Why should I wax?
Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is more effective than shaving because it removes hair at the root. Over time, and with repeated waxing, unwanted hair in those areas will grow back lighter and more sparse.
Does it hurt?
Everyone's tolerance for pain is different. I believe that waxing is most uncomfortable when it is a new sensation and you do not know what to expect. Any discomfort will subside quickly and will lessen with each visit, as the hair thins and less hair is removed from the area.
At New Moon, we use a very high quality French depilatory wax that is heated to just above the temperature of the skin. Some clients say that they can hardly feel a thing!! Caffeine, pregnancy and menstruation can cause increased sensitivity. Taking an Ibuprofen 30 minutes prior to your visit has been known to reduce pain.
How long does the hair need to be?
Do NOT shave immediately prior to a waxing appointment. The hair needs to be 1/4 " to 1/2" long, or approximately 3 weeks worth of growth. If the hair is too short, the wax will have nothing to adhere to and, therefore, will not remove the hair.
How long does it last?
After your first waxing, you should expect the hair to grow back in 3-6 weeks, however hair grows faster in warmer climates. With regular waxing, you will find that the length of time between waxing will increase due to the decrease of hair growth in those areas.
Will the hair grow back thicker in those areas?
No! This is one of the great myths about hair removal. Usually, re-growth will be finer, thinner and slower in areas that are waxed on a regular basis.
Is waxing okay for me?
Waxing is appropriate for almost everyone. However, some physicians do not recommend waxing for people who are diabetic or who have varicose veins in the area to be waxed. Waxing should NEVER be performed on a client who is using Retin-A, Accutane, Renova, Differin or any other acne medications that thin the skin. It is the responsibility of the client to discuss any concerns, conditions or medications that may be contra-indicated for waxing. We will be more than happy to have you in for a free consulation.
